Grant Thornton advises Wallbox on the strategic acquisition of ABL

Cologne/Duesseldorf/Frankfurt, 21 November 2023

Wallbox, a leading global provider of charging and energy management solutions for electric vehicles, has successfully completed the acquisition of the business operations and assets of ABL. The transaction volume amounts to around 15 million euros. With this step, Wallbox expands its product and customer portfolio and strengthens its competitive position in key markets.

An interdisciplinary team of experts from Grant Thornton Germany, led by partners Stefan Blum (Transactional Due Diligence), Dr Stephane Müller (Commercial Due Diligence), Dr Nicolas Brüggen (Tax Due Diligence) and Dr Mathias Reif (Legal Due Diligence & Negotiation Support), provided Wallbox with comprehensive financial, commercial, tax and legal advice on the transaction and thus contributed significantly to the successful completion of the acquisition. Thanks to their expertise, the multidisciplinary team was able to master the specific challenges of this international transaction.

Founded in Barcelona in 2015, Wallbox offers a complete portfolio of charging and energy management solutions for private, semi-public and public use in more than 120 countries worldwide. ABL, a pioneer with decades of experience in the fields of energy management and e-mobility, is based in southern Germany and produces wallboxes and charging stations. Company founder Albert Büttner developed the SCHUKO plug in 1925, which is widely used for plug and socket devices today.

Christian Bajac, Head of Corporate Development at Wallbox, explains: "Wallbox is very pleased to announce the acquisition of ABL, a major provider of charging stations for electric vehicles in Europe. Grant Thornton, our trusted advisor for the due diligence and negotiation of all contracts related to the transaction, played a crucial role in making this strategic move a reality. Their financial expertise, legal skills, in-depth analysis of commercial aspects, careful attention to tax nuances and thorough assessment of the workforce have been instrumental in ensuring a seamless transition and setting the course for a greener and more sustainable future."
